Using Real Life Websites for My Virtual World

Sometimes real life comes up with something that may be useful to residents of Second Life.  Recently I have found a few sites/products that could help make my life a tad easier or just a way to keep in touch.
  1. LetsCall.me - A site that accepts calls anonymously without revealing your phone number.  You sign up for an account and give the site your phone number.  The account gives you a website for you to share with people.  Once people visit that website, they can input their phone number and you are called by the LetsCall.me service and so are they, then you are connected together so either of you know the other person phone number.  This would be great if you break your mic during a meeting or you have to go but want to chat still.  No need to give out your real life phone number yet.  If your bored feel free to call me up or just visit the site to see what it would look like if you were about to make that call.  Call me!
  2. Meebo.com - Meebo is a multi instant messaging client.  There's not much to say about it because we all have used them at one point.  The advantage that Meebo has right now is it is online.  You don't need to download anything which is nice especially if you are on different computers or your not always at your specific computer.  Lets say you need to keep up with someone in-world but your at a friends house, nine times out of 10 the person your talking to has one of the million messaging programs out there.  Now you can chat at your friends house with them from mostly anywhere.
  3. Mobile Instant Messengers - Now with the above being stated, the only mobile phone that works with Meebo is the iPhone.  So if you have one of those you are still set and still have the ability to talk with your clients or customers when your anywhere using your cell phone.  Let's say you don't have an iPhone, then you can download most of the popular clients onto your phone since you always carry it anyways and just have people IM you their screen name to you.  Again chances are they have one of the popular clients.  Personally I have a BlackBerry and downloaded all of them.  If someone wants to chat they just IM me and I email them back with what clients I have and my screen name.  It has worked great so far.
  4. AreMySitesUp.com - This site is pretty easy to understand.  If you are a business in Second Life that has a website or a blog then you can know if your site ever goes down.  It sends you an email stating that your site went down if it ever does.  The other neat feature is that it can send you a text message if you set it up that way.  This is great to setup once and just forget about it until something goes wrong, if it ever does.
  5. Resnooze.com - Resnooze is a basic setup that emails you reminders of anything you want.  I have found this useful for reminding myself when people need to pay for rent in-world or for advertising spots.  The easy setup allows you to create a reminder that is then emailed to you.  You can also copy and paste the code they give you to send that reminder to a friend and it will notify them as well.  This is useful for collecting payment when advertising on a website or for rent on an ad board.  Also I have found it useful to keep track of meetings and anything you just want to remember.  It is worth checking out because of the ability of sharing the reminder with another person.
